Be Prepared for Severe Weather This Year

Are you ready for severe weather? Mdewakanton Public Safety encourages you to observe Severe Weather Awareness Week, April 7-11, in an effort to refresh, remind, and educate everyone about the seasonal threats of severe weather and how to avoid them.

Held in collaboration with the National Weather Service and the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Severe Weather Awareness Week is a great time to practice and discuss emergency plans at home, at school, and at work. Make sure you and your loved ones know what to do regardless of where you are located when severe weather arrives.

Severe Weather Awareness Week Schedule

Tuesday, April 8: Severe Weather, Lightning, and Hail

Visit the Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s Severe Weather Awareness page for safety tips and information for each day and how you can participate at home, at school, at work, and in your community.

As part of Severe Weather Awareness Week, statewide tornado drills are scheduled for Thursday, April 10, at 1:45pm and 6:45pm. Outdoor warning sirens will sound in a simulated tornado warning. The first drill is intended for institutions and businesses. The evening drill is intended for second shift workers and families. These drills are in addition to the monthly tests that are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 1pm.
